Who am I?

I am Gao Shu Yi.

Who am I?

I was born in 1994 on the Huangyang River Farm in Gansu, China. My parents told me that Huangyanghe Farm was called Huangyanghe Farm because of a river called Huangyang. I have never seen this river till today. All I remember of that place is the endless Gobi and desert with sheep.

Who am I?

Since 2017, I have been creating performing arts, including but not limited to performance art, live art, body art, theatre, interdisciplinary performance, and site-specific performance creation.

My current work aims to explore the relationship between the human body and territory, memory and objects, and to investigate the construction and deconstruction of identity, drawing on the 'person on the move'.

In my performances I am most interested in exploring the fluidity between my conscious, subconscious and unconscious mind and the flow of actual time, performance time, memory and dreams during performance.

I am interested in exploring and experimenting with the disharmony and harmony of the four elements of performance - sound, body, space and object - in performance.

I use the process of my performance to investigate and document the temporality of the 'I' presence.
